Ein Tag in Basel, Die Schweiz

October 15th, 2014

Hallo! Today I visited Basel, Switzerland. I really enjoyed myself and now I know that I can explore alone, and safely and still have a blast:)

I Left from the Lörrach Hbf (Lörrach Main Train Station - Hauptbahnhof) around 12:30 and had lunch before I left.

Classic German Currywurst und Brot

It was only a ten minute ride from Germany to Switzerland. I arrived at the Basel Badischer Bahnhof. I went to exchange my currency to have some Swiss Francs (CHF) on hand.

Just outside I hopped on Tram 6 to the Messe stop.

Messe
Really cool architecture, really massive
Basically I had no clue where I was, or where I should go. All I was using as directions was a Tram Map that I took a picture of.

I just decide to walk straight out from the Messe stop and see what I would find.
As I kept going I saw just normal shops and a Starbucks! So I popped inside for a quick Pumpkin Spice Latte. Coming from Glen Ellyn where there is an easily accessible Starbucks right down town, and not having one in Lörrach, I decided to treat myself. It was a treat 1. because its Starbucks, and 2. it was so expensive! I ordered a tall, which translates to the smallest size and that was about double what a tall in America would cost. My host family had warned me that Switzerland would be VERY expensive. The PSL was also VERY tasty:)

Then I just wandered around the beautiful city. Basel is pretty big, and who knows how many kilometers or miles I covered, but I did see many adorable old buildings, gorgeous churches, and winding little streets.

It was really nice seeing the Rhine River again:)

While I was wandering through the streets of Basel I kept seeing cool buildings in the distance. I then made it my mission to somehow stumble across it. For example, once I finally found the cathedral with the tall dark tower I literally said 'yes!' out loud. Playing this seek and find game, I found, made exploring really exciting:)

I also found some just interesting or cool things while I walked aimlessly.

This tower is attached to the Bridge over the Rhine, and has tons of love locks on it:)

Today in Basel I had so much fun! I definitely want to go back. I would definitely recommend visiting Basel if you are in Europe.

After a lot of walking I was quite hungry, so at the Badischer Bahnhof to go home I devoured a delicious 'Miss Chocoholic Muffin' from the bakery shop in the train station. It was exactly what I needed as I waited for the train (that I rushed for) to come.

To reiterate,
Basel is Beyond Brilliant!

Tschüss!
